Through a press release signed by its general rapporteur Gombo Breye Houzibé, the observatory of associations on the electoral process in Chad (Oapet) is concerned about the tense socio-political climate prevailing in Chad.

While the electoral campaign opened yesterday, Sunday, April 14, Oapet expresses concern about “the socio-political climate and the glaring insecurity that has been reigning in cities and villages lately, as well as the violence on social networks currently prevailing.”

Concerned about the country’s future, the observatory of associations on the electoral process in Chad calls on candidates to maintain “responsible and unifying speeches” while avoiding “hateful, tribal, regionalist, and divisive statements that could lead to war.”

Furthermore, Oapet urges the candidates in the upcoming presidential election on May 6 to campaign according to their political program and to eliminate “suicidal populism.”
