Telecom Egypt has recently implemented price increases for both prepaid landline packages and landline internet packages. These changes came into effect on January 11, following a previous announcement regarding the price adjustments for landline internet packages.
According to a statement from Telecom Egypt, the prices of prepaid landline packages have been raised by five LE across all packages. Additionally, the company has increased the total expenses for requesting and installing a landline, including tax and stamp, to LE203.40, up from the previous cost of LE115.03. However, the expenses for submitting a request for installation have remained at LE17.5. Furthermore, the installation expenses have surged from LE72.5 to LE150, marking an increase of over 106 percent. This brings the total requesting and installation expenses, without stamp duty and value-added tax, to LE167.5 instead of the previous LE90.
In addition to the changes in prepaid landline packages, Telecom Egypt has also raised the prices of landline internet packages by over 30 percent since January 5. These adjustments were made alongside the introduction of free browsing for educational and government service websites.
The company’s decisions to increase prices for both landline and internet packages have sparked public attention and scrutiny. Customers and observers are expressing concerns about the financial implications of these changes, particularly in light of the economic challenges facing many individuals and households.
As Telecom Egypt moves forward with these price increases, it remains to be seen how the market and consumers will respond. The company has emphasized its commitment to providing quality services to its customers, but the recent changes in pricing have undoubtedly raised questions and prompted discussions about the accessibility and affordability of telecommunications services in Egypt.
