The Ministry of Immigration and the Affairs of Egyptians Abroad has a crucial role in strengthening the connection of Egyptians living abroad with their homeland. Ambassador Soha Gendi, Minister of State for Immigration and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, recently met with Dr. Mohamed Makkawi, President of the Egyptian-Dutch Friendship Association, and Mr. Saeed Othman, Vice President of the Association and member of the Union of Egyptian Communities in Europe, to discuss cooperation to support the health sector in Egypt.
Ambassador Gendi began the meeting by warmly welcoming her guests and commending the significant contributions of Egyptians abroad in various fields. She expressed her full support for any ideas and proposals from members of the Egyptian communities that would enhance and develop the services provided by Egyptian state institutions, especially for the most vulnerable groups in various governorates.
During the meeting, the Minister of Immigration listened to the proposal presented by the President of the Egyptian-Dutch Friendship Association. She emphasized her keenness to collaborate in the medical sector and actively participate in serving the Egyptian state while supporting national health initiatives initiated by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. This includes addressing waiting lists and other pressing healthcare needs.
Ambassador Gendi reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to cooperate in various areas, including the engagement of Egyptian doctors living abroad to leverage their expertise in providing much-needed medical services to citizens. This aligns with the strategy of empowering the Egyptian population and ensuring a decent quality of life in line with the Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the Egyptian State Vision 2030.
Furthermore, Minister Gendi highlighted the Ministry’s launch of an electronic registration form aimed at enlisting Egyptian doctors abroad who are willing to support the health system in Egypt, particularly for underserved groups. This initiative was introduced in response to requests from Egyptian medical professionals overseas seeking to contribute to the health and medical field in Egypt, including training and providing essential medical supplies.
Additionally, Ambassador Gendi mentioned her meeting with Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health, during which they discussed the potential for the Ministry of Health to benefit from the presence of Egyptian medical professors on leave, allowing them to support the healthcare sector in Egypt.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Immigration and various stakeholders, including the Egyptian-Dutch Friendship Association and the Union of Egyptian Communities in Europe, signifies a concerted effort to address healthcare challenges and bolster the health sector in Egypt. It also underscores the commitment of the Egyptian government to harness the knowledge and skills of its citizens living abroad in the pursuit of national development. This strategic partnership aims to leverage the collective expertise and resources available within the Egyptian diaspora to advance the well-being of the population in Egypt.
