Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized the far-reaching impact of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip on neighboring countries, particularly Egypt. He highlighted that despite these challenges, Cairo remains a key contributor, delivering over 80 percent of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
Madbouly made these statements during a meeting on Saturday, 02/03/2024, with Qu Dongyu, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, and his delegation. The meeting was attended by International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat, Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister El Sayed El Quseir, and FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa Abdul Hakim Elwaer.
Egypt is seeking support from the FAO to increase the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Madbouly announced. He commended the longstanding and strategic partnership between Egypt and the FAO.
Earlier that day, Madbouly witnessed the signing of the framework program of the FAO in Egypt. This program is part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), which aims to assist the government in achieving development objectives outlined in Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the presidential initiative “Decent Life.”
The Prime Minister expressed his approval of the newly signed program, highlighting its role in supporting projects that further the goals of agricultural sustainable development and promote food security in Egypt.
In his meeting with Qu Dongyu, Madbouly also discussed the importance of enhancing collaboration between Egypt and the FAO to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He emphasized the need for greater international support to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population affected by the conflict.
Madbouly and his delegation discussed potential strategies for expanding the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including coordinating efforts with international partners and leveraging existing resources to maximize impact.
The Prime Minister reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting the people of Gaza and reaffirmed Cairo’s dedication to delivering essential aid to those in need. He stressed the importance of international cooperation in providing humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected regions and called on the FAO to continue its support for these critical efforts.
Overall, Madbouly’s meeting with the FAO Director-General underscored Egypt’s ongoing commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and highlighted the crucial role of international organizations in providing assistance to vulnerable populations in times of conflict and emergency.
