The Giza Governorate Media Center recently issued a statement announcing the ongoing development of the area surrounding the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). The Governor of Giza, Ahmed Rashid, is closely monitoring the progress of the project, particularly focusing on the establishment of an international tourist walkway that will link the GEM and the Pyramids area, according to the center.

This extensive walkway spans a length of 1,270 km and is divided into three parts, with a width ranging from 11.5 m to 27.5 m. Rashid has assigned the head of al-Haram district to supervise the development on the ground, in close coordination with the implementing agencies to address any obstacles that may arise during the project.

Furthermore, the General Administration of Giza Traffic, in collaboration with the implementing company, has installed information signs in the work area to ensure the safety of visitors and the efficient flow of traffic. The plan for the archaeological area includes the provision of essential services next to the new entrance for the pyramids area. This will include a police point, a civil defense building, an ambulance building, an administrative building for antiquities inspectors, and several environmentally friendly restaurants.

Rashid also reviewed the progress of the beautification efforts at the entrance to Fayoum Road. This includes the enhancement of sites and points with green spaces, renovation of fences, implementation of lighting means, and the development of sidewalks on both sides of the road. Additionally, the development work encompasses al-Remaya Square, the expansion of the road from the square to the Ring Road, and the improvement of the area located below the Ring Road in the Kafr Ghatati area, starting from the Egypt-Alexandria Desert Road to Mansouriya Road.

It was also reported that the planting of palm trees, trees, and the installation of irrigation systems and electricity surrounding the GEM have been completed. This holistic approach to development aims to create a welcoming and sustainable environment that enhances the visitor experience while preserving the historic and cultural significance of the area.

This update on the ongoing development of the Giza Governorate, particularly in the area surrounding the Grand Egyptian Museum, underscores the commitment to promoting tourism and preserving Egypt’s rich heritage. With the leadership of Governor Ahmed Rashid and the collaboration of implementing agencies, the region is poised to offer a world-class experience for tourists and locals alike. The completion of the international tourist walkway and the various infrastructure enhancements will undoubtedly contribute to the allure and accessibility of this iconic historical site.
