The Egyptian national football team’s captain, Mohamed Salah, has suffered a strain in the posterior muscle, which will result in him missing the team’s two matches in the African Cup of Nations against Cape Verde, as well as the round of 16 match if the team qualifies.
The injury occurred when Salah reported pain in his back muscle at the end of the first half of the national team’s match against Ghana on Thursday evening.
Rui Vitoria, the national team’s coach, commented on Salah’s injury after the match, stating: “Mohamed Salah is a great and wonderful player, and his presence is an asset to the team, and he feels pain behind his exit from the match.”
Liverpool FC coach Jürgen Klopp also addressed Salah’s injury during a press conference, saying: “In fact, we do not have any information yet. I spoke with Mo yesterday, and he told me that he felt some pain.”
As a result, the Egyptian national team is gearing up to face Cape Verde on Monday at 10 pm Cairo time in the third and final round of the group stage of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
The absence of Salah from these crucial matches is a blow to the Egyptian national team as well as his club, Liverpool FC. Salah’s impact on the field and his scoring prowess have been pivotal to both teams, and his absence will be keenly felt.
Despite the setback, the Egyptian national team will need to regroup and find ways to compensate for Salah’s absence in order to secure positive results in the upcoming matches. The team will be looking to other players to step up and fill the void left by their star player, as they aim to advance in the African Cup of Nations.
