Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar recently emphasized the vital role of the Arab Company for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances (ACDIMA) in advancing and localizing pharmaceuticals and medical appliances according to the latest international standards. This statement was made during the general assembly meeting of ACDIMA, which was attended by Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashaat, and the Board Chairman of ACDIMA on Tuesday 6th February 2024 at the headquarters of the Health Ministry in the New Administrative Capital.
The meeting featured a documentary that highlighted the company’s achievements over its 84-year history and its strategies to enhance the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt. The aim is to develop a roadmap that allows the state to ensure the availability of all types of medications in the market and to explore new economic opportunities with different countries, stated Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.
The minister also stressed the importance of promoting the local pharmaceutical industry in the near future to reduce the reliance on imported medications when local alternatives are available. He also emphasized the need to enhance efforts to establish new and sustainable export opportunities.
In a show of support for the government’s initiatives, ACDIMA presented LE100 million to bolster the presidential initiative aimed at reducing waiting lists for medical treatment, the spokesman added.
The meeting shed light on ACDIMA’s commitment to developing and localizing pharmaceuticals and medical appliances in line with international standards, while also focusing on their efforts to improve the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt. The goal is to ensure the availability of a wide range of medications in the market and to expand economic opportunities by forging collaborations with other countries.
The Health Minister’s emphasis on promoting the local pharmaceutical industry reflects the government’s commitment to fostering self-sufficiency and reducing dependency on imported medications. By encouraging the production of local alternatives, the government aims to bolster the pharmaceutical sector and contribute to the overall development of the country’s healthcare industry.
Additionally, ACDIMA’s contribution of LE100 million to support the government’s initiative to address waiting lists for medical treatment demonstrates the company’s commitment to improving access to healthcare services and supporting national healthcare initiatives.
