Liverpool star Mohamed Salah suffered a setback during Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations match against Ghana, as he sustained an injury to his left thigh towards the end of the first half. The incident led to Salah pulling up and sitting on the field, indicating to the team’s medical staff that he was unable to continue as play continued at the other end. Egypt coach Rui Vitória expressed concern about the severity of the injury, stating, “Of course, we are worried and we hope it is not too serious.”

After the game, Salah did not stop to speak to journalists in the mixed zone, but he appeared to be able to walk without difficulty and was seen smiling. The substitution of Salah for Mostafa Fathi in the second minute of first-half injury time was met with cheers from some Ghana fans, as Salah is the most high-profile player in the tournament. Egypt’s difficulties continued as Mohammed Kudus scored Ghana’s opening goal just a minute later, leading to a 1-0 halftime lead for Ghana. Despite this setback, Egypt managed to come from behind twice to secure a 2-2 draw.

This draw means that the “Pharaohs” have yet to secure a win at the Africa Cup, as they currently sit in second place in Group B with two points, behind group leader Cape Verde. The standings in the group could change when Cape Verde and Mozambique play their second game of the tournament. Only the top two teams in each group are assured of advancing to the next stage of the competition.
