The Cancer Early Detection presidential initiative, launched by the Ministry of Health and Population on January 28, 2024, has provided free medical services to a total of 2.61 million individuals as part of the “100-Day Health” initiative. The initiative aimed to conduct early detection examinations for cancerous prostate, colon, lung, and cervical tumors in 18 governorates.

The campaign targeted individuals aged 18 years and older, with the goal of reducing fatalities from tumor diseases and alleviating the financial burden of both early detection and treatment of advanced cases. Ministry of Health Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar reported that a total of 34,992 cases were referred for lung tumor examinations, 191,782 cases for colon tumor examinations, 137,835 cases for prostate tumor examinations, and 8,000 cases for cervical tumor examinations.

The 18 governorates included in the initiative’s first and second phases were Alexandria, Beheira, Matrouh, Damietta, Qalioubiya, Fayoum, Assiut, South Sinai, Port-Said, Monufia, Red Sea, Sohag, Ismailia, Beni Suef, North Sinai, and Luxor.

The initiative’s focus on early detection is crucial in improving cancer treatment outcomes and reducing the economic burden on individuals and the healthcare system. By providing free medical services for early detection examinations, the Ministry of Health and Population aims to improve access to healthcare and promote proactive cancer screening across the country.

Through the Cancer Early Detection presidential initiative, the Ministry of Health and Population has taken significant steps towards combating cancer and improving healthcare services for millions of individuals in Egypt. The success of this initiative highlights the government’s commitment to prioritizing public health and working towards the prevention and early detection of life-threatening diseases.
