Hamas has issued a statement expressing gratitude towards Egypt’s stance on the Salah al-Din “Philadelphia” axis. Taher al-Nono, the media advisor to the head of the Hamas political bureau, emphasized the importance of Egypt’s role in supporting the Palestinian people and putting a halt to the aggression against Gaza. This statement from Hamas comes in response to the official Egyptian Information Service confirming that any Israeli attempt to occupy the Philadelphia axis in the Gaza Strip would seriously jeopardize Egyptian-Israeli relations. Diaa Rashwan, the head of the commission, criticized recent statements from Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for making false claims about smuggling operations of weapons, explosives, and ammunition from Egyptian territory into Gaza. The Egyptian official urged Israel to conduct thorough investigations within its army, state agencies, and society to identify those responsible for the smuggling. He also warned that Israel’s persistence in spreading these falsehoods is an attempt to justify its plans to occupy the Philadelphia axis, in violation of security agreements and protocols with Egypt. Rashwan emphasized that while Egypt is committed to its international obligations, it will defend its interests and sovereignty over its land and borders against any threats. The statement from Hamas and the Egyptian Information Service’s position reflect a unified front in opposing any Israeli actions that would infringe upon the Gaza Strip’s territory and threaten Egyptian sovereignty. Both parties are calling for respect of existing agreements and protocols and urging Israel to address the root causes of the conflict rather than promoting baseless accusations. The solidarity between Hamas and Egypt underscores the shared goal of defending the rights and security of the Palestinian people in Gaza and upholding Egypt’s territorial integrity.
