The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced that Mohamed Salah will be returning to England to complete his treatment after suffering a strain in the posterior muscle. This decision comes after additional tests were conducted on Salah and discussions between the national team’s medical staff and Liverpool FC. As a result of the injury, Salah missed the national team’s two matches in the African Cup of Nations against Cape Verde, and may also miss the round of 16 match if Egypt were to qualify to the knockout stage.
In a statement released on Monday, the EFA expressed hope that Salah would be able to rejoin the national team in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations, should they qualify. Liverpool FC coach Jurgen Klopp called for Salah to return from the tournament in order to undergo treatment for his muscle injury. Klopp stated that it would “make sense” for Salah to return to Liverpool FC for rehabilitation and treatment, and that he would welcome the Egyptian striker back to the Africa Cup of Nations if he were fit before the final.
As a result of the injury, Salah will be unavailable for Egypt’s final group match against Cape Verde, and it is unlikely that he will be ready to play until the quarter-finals at the earliest. Klopp confirmed that Liverpool’s medical staff is in contact with Salah and expects the player to return from Ivory Coast.
The 31-year-old forward was substituted in the first half of Egypt’s match against Ghana in the African Cup of Nations and after undergoing medical evaluation, it was determined that he would miss the next two matches.
With Salah’s return to England for treatment, both the EFA and Liverpool FC will be closely monitoring his recovery in hopes of a swift and successful rehabilitation.
