The Chairman of the Defense and National Security Committee in the Egyptian House of Representatives, MP Ahmed al-Awadi, recently shed light on the reason behind the increase in fees for issuing Egyptian passports.

Speaking in a phone interview with TV host Amr Adib on the “al-Hekaya” (The Story) show on MBC Masr, Awadi explained that the rise in fees is a result of the high prices of the requirements for passport issuance, particularly due to the need for imported paper.

According to Awadi, the increase in fees for a regular passport is estimated to be between LE750 and LE1,000, on top of other related charges.

He clarified that this increase applies specifically to regular passports and not to urgent ones. Regular passports typically take about a week to be processed, while urgent passports can be obtained on the same day for a higher fee.

Awadi emphasized that the total cost of obtaining a regular passport will exceed LE1,000 when factoring in all the associated fees. This includes the cost of the passport itself as well as any additional charges required for processing.

It is important to note that the increase in fees for Egyptian passports is directly linked to the rising costs of materials needed for passport issuance, such as imported paper.

These rising costs have necessitated an adjustment in the fees charged to applicants in order to cover the expenses incurred by the government.

While the increase in passport fees may come as a disappointment to some individuals, it is essential to understand the underlying reasons for these adjustments.

As with any government service, there are costs associated with providing passports, and these costs must be covered in order to maintain the integrity and efficiency of the passport issuance process.

In light of these developments, it is crucial for individuals seeking to obtain or renew their Egyptian passports to be aware of the updated fees and to budget accordingly.

By understanding the reasons behind the fee increase and the costs involved in passport issuance, applicants can better prepare for the financial aspects of obtaining this important travel document.

Ultimately, the increase in fees for Egyptian passports reflects the evolving nature of government services and the need to cover the expenses associated with providing these essential documents.

As individuals navigate the process of obtaining passports in Egypt, it is important to stay informed about any changes in fees and to plan accordingly to ensure a smooth and efficient application process.
