In a recent announcement by the Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops and Tourism Activities at Egypt’s Tourism Ministry, Mohamed Amer, it was revealed that the total number of new hotel rooms that were opened or re-operated during the past year amounted to a staggering 14,209 rooms. This unprecedented number represents Egyptian tourism’s highest growth rate in the last 15 years, with a seven percent growth rate in the size of hotel capacity, bringing the total to 220,044 rooms.
Amer shared this information during a meeting with Tourism Minister Ahmed Issa on Tuesday. During the meeting, Amer reviewed the final standing of the number of hotel rooms that were added to the existing capacity from December 2022 to December 2023, which included the opening of new hotel facilities, reopening of closed facilities, and the expansion of existing facilities.
Issa emphasized the importance of expediting the construction of the required hotel rooms to accommodate Egypt’s projected incoming tourist traffic. The goal is to receive 30 million tourists by 2028, and ensuring sufficient accommodation is a key aspect of achieving this target.
This significant growth in hotel capacity is a positive indicator for Egyptian tourism and signifies the ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s appeal as a tourist destination. The increase in available hotel rooms provides greater flexibility and options for visitors, contributing to an improved overall experience for tourists.
As Egypt continues to prioritize the development and expansion of its tourism infrastructure, it is positioning itself to attract an increasing number of visitors in the coming years. The proactive approach taken by the Tourism Ministry and other relevant authorities demonstrates a commitment to fostering sustainable growth and prosperity within the tourism sector.
