The Egyptian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, recently announced the completion of the development of the “Price Radar” mobile phone application. This app is set to be launched in July and is expected to revolutionize the way consumers shop for goods in Egypt.

The “Price Radar” application is designed to empower users by allowing them to specify the location, store, and price of items they are interested in purchasing. Users can also attach a picture of the price, specify the geographical location of the purchase, and search for prices of goods in the area as shared by other users. This feature will provide valuable information to consumers, enabling them to make informed decisions about their purchases.

The announcement of the “Price Radar” application was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Madbouly to follow up on the Supreme Committee for Regulating Markets and Commodity Prices. This meeting highlighted the government’s commitment to improving market transparency and empowering consumers through technology.

In addition to the “Price Radar” application, the government is also working on another mobile application in collaboration with the Information and Decision Support Center and the Consumer Protection Agency. This new app will facilitate the receipt of complaints and reports from citizens, as well as provide various services to the public. It will also provide advice and warnings about defective goods in the markets, informing consumers of their rights and enabling them to submit complaints when needed.

Assistant Prime Minister Osama al-Gohary outlined the proposed paths of action for the government, which include providing data on food production and distribution companies registered with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade. By linking them to the electronic invoice system, the government aims to implement an electronic tracking system for strategic goods to monitor production, distribution, and inventory levels effectively.

Furthermore, in the short term, the government plans to expand the scope of monitoring wholesale markets in various governorates, increasing the total number of monitored markets to 11. This initiative aims to ensure the implementation of price reduction initiatives and daily monitoring operations while also utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to predict price fluctuations in essential food commodities. By issuing warnings ahead of price crises, the government hopes to mitigate the impact on consumers and stabilize the market.

Overall, the Egyptian government’s focus on market regulation, consumer protection, and technological innovation is a positive step towards creating a fair and transparent marketplace for all consumers. The launch of the “Price Radar” application and the upcoming consumer protection app demonstrate the government’s commitment to empowering consumers and promoting market efficiency in Egypt.
