The Ministry of Health and Population recently announced a major milestone in their efforts to provide critical surgical interventions to those in need. Since the launch of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s initiative to end waiting lists in July 2018, a staggering 2,160,482 surgeries have been completed. This initiative was put in place to address the issue of long waiting lists for essential surgeries and to prevent the accumulation of new lists for critical interventions.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, shared that the ministry has received nearly 180,000 calls from patients on waiting lists. Through a dedicated hotline for the initiative, they have been able to achieve a completion rate of 98 percent in addressing these cases. Additionally, over 100,000 cases have been followed up on from July 2023 to April of this year, highlighting the ongoing commitment to providing timely and essential medical care.

The initiative encompasses a wide range of surgeries, including those for the heart, bones, ophthalmology, tumors, brain catheters, cardiac catheterization, brain and nerves, kidney transplantation, liver transplantation, and cochlear implantation. These surgeries are carried out in accordance with the directives of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, with patients being centrally distributed to participating hospitals to ensure prompt and efficient medical treatment.

One of the key aspects of the initiative is that all services provided under the President’s Initiative to End Waiting Lists are completely free of charge. Patients do not have to bear any financial burdens, making critical surgeries accessible to those who need them most. The primary goal of the initiative is to alleviate the suffering of the underprivileged and to perform urgent surgeries with the highest quality and in the quickest possible time frame.

Through the President’s Initiative to End Waiting Lists, the Ministry of Health and Population is making significant strides in improving access to critical surgical care for those in need. By addressing long waiting lists and ensuring that essential surgeries are conducted promptly and efficiently, they are helping to alleviate the burden on those who may otherwise struggle to access the medical care they require.

Overall, the completion of over 2 million surgeries under this initiative is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Ministry of Health and Population in meeting the healthcare needs of the population. By prioritizing the well-being of all individuals and providing essential medical services free of charge, they are making a tangible difference in the lives of countless patients across the country.
