The Ministry of Transport has entered into an agreement between Egypt and Italy to facilitate the transportation of goods using road-towed vehicles, specifically semi-trailers and semi-trailers, through the use of roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) cargo ship services. Minister of Transport, Kamel al-Wazir, emphasized that this maritime transport line will create opportunities for local exporters to transport agricultural produce from Egypt to Europe, ultimately boosting exports between the two countries.

Minister al-Wazir also noted that the project deal was initially approved in 2019, and as a result, customs duties were reduced from $26,000 to $3,000. Additionally, a ship capable of transporting crops is now available for use. Furthermore, the European Union has provided a grant for a partnership between Egyptian and Italian customs, and all obstacles related to road transport have been successfully resolved.

Ro-Ro transport, which stands for “roll-on” and “roll-off”, is a method utilized for transporting goods between countries via sea. This involves loading products onto trucks at a sea line and then transporting them on ferries known as “roll-on/roll-off ships”.

This agreement signifies a major step in enhancing the transportation of goods between Egypt and Italy, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the export industry in Egypt. The reduction in customs duties and the availability of a dedicated cargo ship for transporting crops will greatly benefit local exporters, providing them with a cost-effective and efficient means of transporting their products to European markets.

Overall, the agreement represents a significant milestone in promoting trade and economic cooperation between Egypt and Italy, and it is expected to contribute to the growth of both countries’ economies. It is a testament to the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and facilitate trade between the two nations.
