According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Egyptian officials have issued a warning to Israel against any attacks on the Philadelphia Corridor and any attempts to displace Palestinians. The newspaper also stated that Cairo had contemplated withdrawing its ambassador from Tel Aviv and that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had rejected multiple attempts by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to communicate with him. The report emphasized that Egyptian leaders are keen on demonstrating their unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The Wall Street Journal pointed out that Egyptian-Israeli relations are currently at their lowest point in the past two decades, highlighting the impact of the Gaza war on the delicate relationship between the two countries. It mentioned that Egypt was the first Arab nation to formally recognize Israel in 1979.

The escalation of tensions between Egypt and Israel following bombings at the Salah al-Din Corridor, also known as the Philadelphia Corridor, prompted comments from Egyptian national security expert Ahmed Refaat in December. Refaat, speaking to RT, stated that Egypt had set clear boundaries for the Israeli enemy to understand what was feasible and what was not amid the increasing turmoil.

Egypt has also expressed its reservations to Israel in response to the Israeli Air Force conducting multiple strikes near the Salah al-Din Corridor, which serves as the boundary between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

The Wall Street Journal’s report sheds light on the strained relations between Egypt and Israel and the complexities arising from the ongoing conflict in Gaza, underscoring the significance of recent developments in the region.
