The Egyptian Cabinet recently announced a temporary halt to its electrical load-shedding plan, which was put in place in response to increased electricity consumption brought on by searing heatwaves across the nation. This decision will be effective starting in March for up to a month, with a new decision expected to be issued after the end of Ramadan.
The Cabinet made this decision during a meeting on Thursday, agreeing to stop implementing the plan to reduce electrical loads during the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan, which is expected to begin on Monday, March 11 this year, will follow the legal sighting of the crescent on the 29th of Shaban 1445 Hijri – the actual date of which remains to be officially announced.
The load-shedding plan, which was put into effect on July 17, involved cutting off electricity throughout the country to reduce daily consumption, which had risen to up to 36 gigawatts. This measure was deemed necessary due to the extreme heatwaves that were affecting Egypt at the time.
Ministry of Electricity officials have indicated that the reduction in electricity loads in Egypt will continue until March, as there has been a decrease in the fuel supplied to production stations. This decrease is aimed at benefiting from gas exports during the coming months and ensuring a stable energy supply in the country.
This decision to temporarily halt the load-shedding plan is a welcome relief for many Egyptians who have been grappling with power outages and disruptions to their daily lives. With the upcoming month of Ramadan, it is important to ensure that the people of Egypt have access to stable and reliable electricity during this holy month.
The government’s decision to pause the load-shedding plan demonstrates a commitment to meeting the energy needs of the population while also balancing the country’s energy resources. By carefully managing electricity consumption and production, Egypt can maintain a steady supply of energy for its residents and businesses.
As the country looks ahead to the end of Ramadan and beyond, it will be crucial for the government to continue monitoring and managing electricity loads to ensure a stable and sustainable energy supply. By making informed decisions and implementing effective policies, Egypt can navigate the challenges of energy production and consumption while meeting the needs of its growing population.
