The Egyptian Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, recently made a decision to extend the period for regularizing the statuses and legalizing the residency of foreigners living in the country illegally. This six-month extension allows for a new segment of foreigners to have their statuses regularized.
Last year, the Cabinet issued a decision that stated foreigners applying for residency for tourism or non-tourism purposes must provide proof that they have paid residency fees, late fines, or the costs of a residency card in US dollars or the equivalent in foreign currencies. This payment should be made through certified banks or exchange companies.
Foreigners who are residing illegally in Egypt can legalize their status by having an Egyptian host and depositing administrative expenses of US$1,000 at an Egyptian bank. This process allows them to legally reside in the country.
According to Egypt’s ambassador to Italy, Bassam Rady, there are approximately nine million migrants of various nationalities living in Egypt. These migrants have the same rights as native Egyptians when it comes to work, trade, transportation, and ownership.
The decision made by the Egyptian Cabinet highlights the government’s efforts to address the issue of illegal residency in the country. By allowing foreigners to regularize their statuses and legalize their residency, the government is working towards creating a more inclusive and regulated system for all residents in Egypt.
This decision also reflects Egypt’s commitment to upholding the rights of migrants and ensuring that they have access to basic services and opportunities. By extending the period for regularization, the government is providing foreigners with the necessary time to comply with the requirements and legalize their residency in the country.
Overall, this decision by the Egyptian Cabinet demonstrates the government’s dedication to addressing the needs of all residents in the country, regardless of their nationality. By creating a system that allows for the regularization of statuses and the legalization of residency, Egypt is taking a step towards fostering a more inclusive and diverse society.
