The Chairman of the Egyptian State Information Service (SIS), Diaa Rashwan, has strongly criticized multiple international media reports that suggest the Egyptian government is making preparations to build units in North Sinai to house displaced Palestinians. He made it clear that Egypt categorically rejects any attempts to forcefully or voluntarily displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egyptian territory, emphasizing that this position is non-negotiable.

Rashwan stated, “Egypt’s position is complete and irreversible rejection of any forced or voluntary displacement of our Palestinian brothers from the Gaza Strip to outside it, especially to Egyptian lands.” He went on to explain that such displacement would essentially amount to the liquidation of the Palestinian cause and would directly threaten Egyptian sovereignty and national security.

He reiterated that this stance has been expressed by the Egyptian people and government, emphasizing that Egypt has the capability to respond swiftly and effectively if the need arises. Rashwan stressed that any measures or actions that conflict with Egypt’s opposition to displacement would not be tolerated and that Egypt would take all necessary steps to prevent such actions from taking place.

Furthermore, he highlighted the fact that displacement of Palestinians constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and emphasized that Egypt cannot and will not be complicit in such crimes. On the contrary, Egypt will take all necessary measures to prevent and stop any attempts at displacement.

Addressing the reports about the construction of a separation wall on the border with the Gaza Strip, Rashwan clarified that Egypt has had a buffer zone and walls in the region for a significant period of time, which are standard measures taken by any country to secure its borders and protect its sovereignty.

The Egyptian leadership has consistently underscored its rejection of the displacement of Palestinians and has called for efforts to prevent the expansion of the conflict to other areas in the region.

In conclusion, Rashwan’s statement serves to dispel the rumors and allegations regarding Egypt’s involvement in plans to accommodate displaced Palestinians. It reaffirms Egypt’s unwavering commitment to standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people and its determination to safeguard its own sovereignty and national security.
