A high-ranking Egyptian official has confirmed that Egypt is closely monitoring the situation in Rafah and is prepared to handle all anticipated scenarios. The Chairman of State Information Service, Dia Rashwan, emphasized Egypt’s crucial role in the Palestinian crisis and its capability to defend itself during a televised phone call to the “Kalema Akhera” program. Rashwan stated that if Egypt’s national security is threatened or if the Palestinian cause is compromised, Egypt will take more severe actions than just withdrawing its ambassador.
The strained relations between Egypt and Israel have reached a critical point due to Israel’s aggressive actions in the Gaza Strip and false allegations against Egypt before the International Court of Justice. Earlier reports from The Wall Street Journal revealed that Cairo had seriously considered recalling its ambassador from Tel Aviv. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi rejected attempts by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to communicate with him. Additionally, Egyptian officials warned Israel against any attacks on the Philadelphia Corridor and the displacement of Palestinians.
On Monday, the Israeli occupation army launched a series of raids on the city of Rafah, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, prompting about 1.4 million Palestinians to seek refuge in the area. Reports from the Palestinian Wafa News Agency, citing health sources in Rafah, indicated that more than 100 Palestinians, including children and women, were killed in the attacks, and hundreds of others were injured. Israeli planes, tanks, and ships participated in the assaults, resulting in the destruction of two mosques and several homes.
The escalating tension and violence in Rafah have drawn the attention of Egypt, prompting the country to consider all possible outcomes and to take measures to protect its national security. The situation has strained the already fragile relations between Egypt and Israel, exacerbating the challenges in the region. If the crisis continues to escalate, it is likely that Egypt will take further actions to address the situation.
The volatile situation in Rafah underscores the imperative for a resolution to the long-standing Palestinian crisis. Egypt, as a key player in the region, is committed to defending its national security as well as supporting the Palestinian cause. The current hostilities between Israel and the Palestinians in Rafah have heightened tensions and created a sense of urgency for a peaceful resolution. It is essential for all parties involved to engage in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and work towards a lasting peace in the region.
