Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized Egypt’s commitment to maintaining its strategic partnership with the United States, stating that in light of regional and international economic challenges, it is essential for both countries to collaborate to strengthen their relations.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Ways and Means Committee of the US House of Representatives, consisting of members from both the Republican and Democratic parties and led by Committee Chairman Jason Smith, Madbouly highlighted Egypt’s efforts to bolster its national economy in the face of external pressures.
Madbouly noted the government’s success in securing a financing agreement with the International Monetary Fund amounting to $8 billion, with an expert-level agreement already in place. This agreement serves as a testament to international confidence in the Egyptian economy’s ability to achieve positive performance indicators.
Additionally, Madbouly mentioned Egypt’s cooperation with the World Bank Group and other international partners, such as the European Union, to support structural reforms and development plans aimed at boosting the private sector. He highlighted ongoing major projects in Egypt that are expected to generate job opportunities, particularly for young people, and enhance infrastructure to attract investments.
The Prime Minister also discussed Egypt’s collaboration with the US on addressing climate change, particularly since the establishment of a working group between the two countries in February 2022 as part of the strategic dialogue. This partnership has resulted in the launch of various initiatives, particularly focusing on mitigation and adaptation efforts during Egypt’s presidency of COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Egypt’s continued coordination with the US underscores the importance of collective action in addressing pressing global issues and promoting sustainable development.
Overall, Madbouly’s remarks underscore the importance of international partnerships and cooperation in navigating complex economic challenges and fostering inclusive growth and development. Egypt remains committed to working with its allies, including the US, to achieve shared goals and strengthen bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations.
