The Tourism and Antiquities Ministry has recently entered into a cooperation protocol with the General Authority for Tourism Development to create a strategic plan for the area located between the Sphinx International Airport and the Saqqara Pyramid area. This partnership aims to leverage the authority’s technical capabilities and experience in tourism development to enhance the tourism potential of this historically and culturally rich region.
Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Youmna al-Bahar, emphasized the significance of this protocol as the starting point for collaborative efforts to develop the identified area. She highlighted the area’s importance as it encompasses globally significant sites such as the Saqqara Pyramid area, listed on the World Heritage List, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Bahar emphasized the need for a concerted marketing approach, both domestically and internationally, to position this region as a unique destination on the global tourism map. This aligns with the overarching goals of the National Tourism Strategy, focusing on improving the tourism experience and creating a conducive investment climate.
In line with the protocol, Bahar confirmed that the authority has initiated tender procedures to engage consulting offices and expert firms specializing in tourism development to prepare a comprehensive strategic plan for the identified area. The authority’s team will be responsible for overseeing and managing all technical and procedural aspects of the protocol, ensuring the timely and quality implementation of the strategic plan. This includes evaluating interim results and the final report to ensure that the output meets the desired standards.
The collaborative efforts between the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry and the General Authority for Tourism Development underscore a commitment to tapping into the tourism potential of the Sphinx International Airport and Saqqara Pyramid area. The strategic plan will aim to position the region as a must-visit destination, incorporating a rich historical and cultural legacy with modern amenities and infrastructure to enhance the overall tourism experience.
Furthermore, the plan will also focus on creating an attractive investment climate, enticing both domestic and international investors to contribute to the development and enhancement of tourism infrastructure in the identified area. This aligns with the broader goal of fostering sustainable tourism development that benefits both visitors and local communities, while also driving economic growth and employment opportunities in the region.
The successful implementation of the strategic plan is expected to have a far-reaching impact, not only in elevating the global profile of the region but also in attracting a diverse range of tourists and stakeholders. This collaboration between the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry and the General Authority for Tourism Development represents a significant step towards unlocking the full potential of the Sphinx International Airport and Saqqara Pyramid area, positioning it as a premier destination for cultural and heritage tourism.
