Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine al-Kabbaj recently spoke about the impact of climate change on food security, emphasizing that it not only affects the quantity of food available but also its quality. She made these remarks during a ceremony organized by the Misr Elkheir Foundation (MEK) to announce the winners of the 5th edition of the ‘Misr El Kheir’ prize for philanthropic and sustainable development work.
In her speech, Kabbaj also highlighted the economic crises that can arise as a result of climate change, posing a significant threat to any form of development. She pointed out that terrorist attacks and conflicts also present challenges, often leading to the violation of human rights laws and principles. Kabbaj specifically mentioned the heartbreaking reality in Gaza as a result of Israel’s brutal assaults.
Despite these challenges, Kabbaj expressed optimism about Egypt, noting that the country is still full of goodness thanks to its rich resources and the creativity of its people. She also expressed gratitude to the Misr Elkheir Foundation for its role in supporting citizens in need.
Kabbaj praised the growing role of civil society organizations in Egypt, particularly under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. She mentioned that the ministry had provided LE1.400 billion in support of these organizations last year to help them provide necessary services to those most in need.
The Minister’s remarks shed light on the multifaceted impact of climate change and conflict on communities and the importance of support from organizations and government institutions to address these challenges. As climate change continues to pose a threat to food security and economic stability, it is crucial for stakeholders to work together to find sustainable solutions.
The ceremony organized by the Misr Elkheir Foundation served as a platform to recognize the efforts of individuals and organizations dedicated to philanthropy and sustainable development. By acknowledging their contributions, the foundation aims to inspire others to continue working towards positive change in society.
As discussions around climate change and sustainable development gain momentum globally, events like the ‘Misr El Kheir’ prize ceremony provide an opportunity to highlight the importance of addressing these issues at both local and international levels. Through collaborative efforts and recognition of impactful work, there is potential to make meaningful progress in mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting sustainable development.
Minister Nevine al-Kabbaj’s emphasis on the impact of climate change on food security and economic stability serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of environmental and social challenges. It also underscores the need for proactive measures to support vulnerable communities and mitigate the effects of climate change on livelihoods and development.
As Egypt and other countries continue to grapple with the far-reaching consequences of climate change, the insights shared by Minister Kabbaj during the ceremony offer valuable perspectives and opportunities for collaboration in addressing these pressing issues. By prioritizing sustainable development and philanthropy, communities and governments can work towards building resilience and creating positive change in the face of environmental and social challenges.
