Egyptian customs authorities at Dekheila Port in Alexandria successfully foiled an attempt to illegally smuggle white sand out of the country without the approval of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The incident took place during the completion of customs procedures on exported goods in the Inspection and Committee, where a customs committee was formed to inspect the contents of a customs declaration of a company exporting to Slovenia.

According to the documents submitted, the company was exporting four containers containing 80 jumbo plastic drums of yellow sands, weighing a total of 110 tons. However, upon inspection, it was discovered that 24 jumbo plastic drums with white sand were hidden and distributed amongst them, placed under the yellow sand from the inside, and prepared to be smuggled out of the country.

The head of the Central Administration of Dekheila Customs, Magdy Kamal al-Shahawi, decided to take legal measures and notify the competent authorities about the smuggling attempt. The company responsible for the smuggling attempt submitted a request for reconciliation with customs and paid the due customs compensation, which amounted to LE163,230.

This incident highlights the importance of customs authorities in preventing illegal activities such as smuggling. The collaboration between different departments and agencies is crucial in ensuring the security and integrity of the country’s borders. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources plays a vital role in regulating the export of natural resources, such as sand, to protect the country’s environment and resources.

It is important for companies and individuals to adhere to regulations and obtain the necessary permits and approvals before exporting goods. Failure to do so can result in legal consequences and penalties, as evidenced by the case at Dekheila Port.

Customs authorities continue to monitor and inspect goods being exported from the country to prevent illegal activities and protect national interests. The successful interception of the smuggling attempt at Dekheila Port underscores the diligence and effectiveness of these authorities in enforcing regulations and maintaining the country’s security.

In conclusion, the thwarting of the attempt to smuggle white sand out of Egypt without the required approvals serves as a reminder of the importance of compliance with regulations and the role of customs authorities in safeguarding national interests. By upholding the law and taking appropriate measures, authorities can prevent illegal activities and protect the country’s resources and environment.
