This Monday, the day after Easter which marks the end of Lent, the Saint Mary Cathedral located in Kaloum, organized a prayer, teaching, and celebration ceremony with the parishes of Conakry for the children. The objective was to celebrate Easter with the little ones and to teach them more about Easter, Lent, and faith.
After a series of questions and answers on the Gospel according to Saint John with the children, Archbishop Vincent Koulibaly, in his sermon of the day, asked the children to have faith in Jesus Christ and to be wise.
“The ascension of Christ is a lesson for all of us. I ask the children to remain in the spirit of faith, hope because from the moment the Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected, you too will have the grace to receive resurrection one day. But for that, you must pay attention, respect your parents – a very important factor, and study much more,” said the Archbishop of Conakry.
Marie Olga Sy, who led the organization of this Easter celebration with the children, specified that the objective was to gather all the children and remind them that the resurrection of Christ also concerns children.
“They must also know all the importance behind this Easter activity, the time of Easter, how children live it. Today in the discourse and in the sermon, I think the Archbishop talked a little about it, especially the intervention and involvement of children during this time of Lent and today, it is a small commemoration that we celebrate with the children to remind them of the resurrection of Christ, the presence of Christ in them, and living together,” she indicated.
Close to 2000 children were present at this celebration. For Marie Olga Sy, faith is acquired from a young age. “Faith is not just for adults, it is acquired little by little with the older and the younger. So the small message is that parents must be involved in the ecclesial or Christian education of children so that they can know Christ better and keep them in the family,” she said.
Lamah Marguerite François, a faithful Christian, was one of the children who came to celebrate Mass with Archbishop Vincent Koulibaly.
“I came to pray at the Saint Mary’s Cathedral in Conakry and celebrate Easter with the bishop and all the children. I am very happy to have come and I am glad that the bishop invited us because children are a blessing and a source of joy,” she said.
As we were leaving the premises, the celebration continued with the distribution of food, drinks, and water to the children.
