The Democratic Republic of Congo achieved great success at the 13th African Games in Accra 2024, winning an impressive total of 18 medals. Among these, two are gold, five silver, and eleven bronze, confirming the exceptional performance of Congolese athletes in various disciplines.
Boxing was particularly fruitful for the DRC, with two gold medals won by Steve Kulenguluka and Pita Kabeji Peter. These two talented Congolese internationals shone in the ring at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday during the boxing finals of the African Games in Accra.
In the discipline of handball, the men’s and women’s teams of the DRC performed remarkably well by finishing in second place. The players showed unwavering determination throughout the tournament. The men unfortunately lost to Egypt with a score of 33-32, while the women were defeated by Angola with a score of 33-15.
In wrestling, the DRC also won four bronze medals. Rosie Tabora, Aaron Mbo, Andy Kabeya, and Rabby Kilandi excelled in the discipline of Olympic freestyle wrestling, adding these medals to the country’s collection. It should be noted that the DRC did better than in 2019 in Morocco, where they won two bronze medals in wrestling.
