Doctor becomes road safety advocate after losing patient

In June 2026, a 26-year-old man who was injured in a road crash was rushed in critical condition to a private clinic in Gulu City, where Dr Eric Ssennuni was on  duty.

It was an ordinary day, Dr Ssennuni recalled, when the young man was brought to the clinic. Within a few minutes, the victim died while Dr Ssennuni watched helplessly.
“He bled to death. But if the first responders had the skills to stop the bleeding, he would be alive,” Dr Ssennuni said.
