The management of Delta Sports Commission took swift action to ensure proper medical care for one of the officials of Delta Queens FC who was involved in a serious accident. The incident occurred while six officials of Delta Queens were traveling on the Benin – Sagamu Expressway to Ikenne, Ogun State for a midweek league match against Remo Queens.
Amongst those involved in the accident were the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Henrietta Ehiabor, the secretary, and coaches. Fortunately, despite the vehicle being damaged beyond repair, all officials managed to escape with their lives. However, the club secretary suffered multiple fractures on her hand and required immediate medical attention.
The Acting Director General/Chairman of the Commission, Festus Ohwojero, shared details of the incident with The Guardian. He explained that once the severity of the accident was realized, the commission quickly arranged for the officials to be taken to a nearby hospital in Ijebu-Ode. However, it was discovered that the hospital lacked the necessary facilities to provide the required medical care, including x-rays and other tests.
As a result, the decision was made to transfer the secretary to a private hospital in Ijebu-Ode while arrangements were being made to airlift her to Asaba General Hospital for further treatment. Ohwojero emphasized the importance of ensuring the well-being of all athletes, players, and officials associated with the Sports Commission.
