The much-awaited judgment in the case of former TV anchor Jacque Maribe and her ex-fiancé Joseph Irungu is set to be delivered on Friday morning. This decision comes after multiple postponements of the judgment, with the High Court judge Grace Nzioka indicating that she would deliver the judgment on March 15th. The postponements began on January 26, when Ms. Maribe failed to appear in court due to illness.

This adjournment marks the third in a row, with previous postponements occurring on October 6 and December 15 of last year. The case involves the murder of businesswoman Monicah Kimani, in an offense allegedly committed by Ms. Maribe and Mr. Irungu on the night of September 19, 2018.

Monicah Kimani had arrived in the country from South Sudan on September 19, 2018, and checked into her Lamuria Garden Apartment. The prosecution claimed that she landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) around 6 pm and immediately called her brother George Kimani. She was picked up by a taxi driver and was due to fly to Dubai the following day to meet a Sudanese businessman.

Her body was discovered in the bathtub the following morning after her brother and caretaker broke into the house, as she had failed to respond to their messages. Mr. Irungu shot and injured himself two days later after an argument with Ms. Maribe at the Royal Park apartment, claiming that he had been attacked by three unidentified assailants.

The prosecution urged the court to find the duo guilty of murder, stating that Mr. Irungu was placed at the murder scene and was identified by witnesses. They also alleged that he attempted to burn the clothes he was wearing on the fateful night to conceal evidence. Additionally, they claimed that Ms. Maribe knew about her fiancé’s possession of a gun and lied to the police about the incident.

In defense, Ms. Maribe’s legal representation argued that there was no evidence linking her to the murder and that she had no motive to harm the businesswoman. The case has drawn significant public attention, with many eagerly awaiting the judgment.

With the delivery of the judgment approaching, all eyes are on the High Court as it prepares to make a decision in this high-profile case. The outcome of the judgment will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications and will be closely scrutinized by the public and legal experts alike.
Overall, the case has gripped the nation and raised important questions about the criminal justice system and the role of media personalities in high-profile legal matters.
