Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, also known as Spyro, recently opened up about his struggles with his father’s lack of support for his music career. In a podcast interview on Tea With Tay, Spyro shared that he faced resistance from his father due to his background as a pastor, who did not approve of his musical aspirations.
Despite his father’s disapproval, Spyro remained determined to follow his passion for music. He recounted his early days, sharing how he took up menial jobs such as selling recharge cards to support himself and pay for studio time to record his songs. Spyro reflected on his artistic talents, recalling his early involvement in the church choir and his skill in playing the drum set. Despite his father’s objections, Spyro remained steadfast in his pursuit of a music career, believing it to be his calling.
Following his secondary education, Spyro actively pursued his musical ambitions, working tirelessly to record songs and make ends meet. Despite having parents who provided for him, Spyro took on the responsibility of supporting his lifestyle and funding his passion for music.
Spyro’s perseverance eventually paid off when his song ‘Who Is Your Guy’ gained widespread attention in 2023, propelling him to fame. The remix of the song featuring Tiwa Savage was recognized with the Best Collaboration of the Year award at the 2023 Headies Awards, cementing his status as a rising star in the Nigerian music industry.
Spyro’s journey serves as an example of unwavering determination and resilience in the face of opposition. Despite the lack of support from his father, he remained committed to his music career and ultimately achieved success through his hard work and talent.
