Da Muziqal Chef, also known as Tshepo Bure, has been announced as the latest cover star for Apple Music’s Isgubhu playlist. This talented Amapiano producer, multi-instrumentalist, and DJ hails from Soweto and has music running through his veins, thanks to his father’s influence as a trumpeter, his extended musical family, and his experience playing in the church band from a young age.
Having laid the foundation for his music career at Boston Media House, Da Muziqal Chef began experimenting with Amapiano music, initially focusing on purely instrumental tracks. His first EP, Muziqal Fiesta, released in 2021, showcased his ability to collaborate seamlessly with vocalists, songwriters, and other producers. Since then, he has produced some of the genre’s biggest hits, including “John Wick” featuring Sir Trill and “Sgudi Snyc” alongside fellow Amapiano powerhouse, De Mthuda.
In late 2023, Da Muziqal Chef delighted his fans with the release of the Just a Taste EP, which featured the hit single “Ubumnandi”. As he looks ahead to 2023, he is set to release an extended play version of Just a Taste, featuring three additional tracks: “Ngino Mona” with Mawhoo, “Hlala Nawe” with Azana, and “Mzwangedwa” with Eemoh.
To celebrate his feature on the Isgubhu playlist, Da Muziqal Chef has curated an exclusive playlist featuring tracks that are close to his heart. The playlist includes songs from artists like Black Motion, Ladi Adiosoul & Houseville, Shasha, Kelvin Momo, and Something Soweto, each of which holds a special place in his music journey.
Launched in early 2021, Isgubhu is Apple Music’s platform for African Dance and Electronic music, highlighting the work of DJs, producers, and creatives from across the continent. The word “Isgubhu” means beat in Zulu, reflecting the playlist’s focus on banging tracks and paying homage to the genres and artists that have shaped the Dance and Electronic scene in Africa and beyond.
In addition to the main playlist, Isgubhu offers a range of curated playlists, including Spotlight On, which focuses on boutique labels like Soul Candi, House Afrika, and Uganda’s Hakuna Kulala & Nyege Nyege Tapes. Isgubhu Voices shines a light on the best Dance and Electronic tracks with vocals, showcasing a diverse range of talent in the genre.
