A total of 22,838 incidents, according to data from the National Police consulted by Lusa.
The security force recorded 39 homicides in the archipelago during the last year, mostly on the island of Santiago and representing six more than in 2022. The suspects are mostly male and use mainly bladed weapons. There were also 155 sexual crimes, 99 against minors, 12 more than in 2022. The police also recorded 2,399 incidents of gender-based violence, representing a 3% reduction compared to 2022. “It continues to be the second most reported crime against people to the National Police,” accounting for a fifth of the total crimes against people registered in 2023, according to the police. PN data also includes 12,837 property crimes (105 fewer incidents than in 2022).
