Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and distinguished leaders, I am deeply moved and grateful for your presence today. My wife, Grace (Yemisi), and I are overwhelmed by the outpouring of emotions and heartfelt well wishes on this special occasion.

I am honored and humbled by the presence of esteemed leaders from Nigeria, Africa, and around the world. I extend my gratitude to H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, H.E. General Gowon, H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, H.E. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, H.E. Namadi Sambo, and other distinguished guests for honoring me with their presence.

I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to H.E. Samia Suluhu-Hassan, H.E. Azali Assoumani, H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde, H.E. Faure Gnassingbe, and H.E. John Dramani Mahama for taking the time to be here today. Your presence is a great honor for Nigeria and Africa.

I am also grateful for the presence of the President of the Senate of Nigeria, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Executive Governors, Senators, Representatives, and Ministers from Nigeria and other African countries. Special thanks to H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, for his warm hospitality.

I am deeply appreciative of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation for selecting me for this prestigious award. My thanks to Ambassador Dosumu-Awolowo, General Yakubu Gowon, H.E. Emeka Anyaoku, and the Selection Committee for the Prize.

I am grateful to H.E. Goodluck Jonathan for nominating me for the Prize and to other global leaders who supported my nomination. The conferment of this award on Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s birthday is a humbling honor.

My childhood memories of Chief Awolowo have inspired my commitment to people-centric development. His vision and accomplishments in the Western region of Nigeria have influenced my dedication to welfarist policies and people-centered development.

Chief Awolowo’s legacy of infrastructure development, human capacity building, and social welfare policies laid the foundation for progress in Nigeria and Africa. His philosophy of “Awoism” inspired generations beyond Nigeria’s borders.

As I receive this award, I am reminded of my responsibility to continue Chief Awolowo’s legacy. I dream of a better Nigeria, a globally respected Africa, and a prosperous future for all Africans. Despite the challenges we face, I believe in the promise of a brighter future.

I am committed to transforming rural economies, ensuring food security, healthcare access, education for all, affordable housing, and government accountability. These welfarist policies are essential for reducing poverty, inequality, and improving the quality of life for all.

Rural economic transformation, agriculture development, and job creation are key priorities for achieving sustainable development in Africa. By investing in agriculture as a business, we can uplift millions out of poverty and create opportunities for youth.

The journey towards a better Nigeria and Africa is ongoing. I accept this award as a trustee of hope for millions and a call to action amidst global challenges. Together, we can overcome obstacles and build a brighter future for all.

In conclusion, I remain committed to the vision of Chief Awolowo and the dream of a prosperous Nigeria and Africa. Let us work together to make poverty history and create a better future for generations to come.

    Thank you.
