The collaboration between Benin and Canada in the health sector is gaining momentum, with a common desire to accelerate progress in this area. On Tuesday, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation.
During a working visit to Benin, the Honorable Ahmed HUSSEN, Minister of International Development of Canada, met with the Beninese Minister of Health, Professor Benjamin HOUNKPATIN, to discuss cooperation opportunities and challenges to be addressed. This meeting allowed for discussions on the ongoing reforms in Benin aimed at sustainably improving health indicators and meeting the needs of the populations.
During this working visit, the two ministers discussed priority areas of cooperation, including climate resilience, strengthening primary healthcare, governance, and human resource development in the health sector. Particular emphasis was placed on setting up simulation centers to train Beninese healthcare personnel.
The discussions were deemed fruitful, hinting at promising prospects for bilateral cooperation between Benin and Canada in the health sector. This partnership dynamic reflects the commitment of both countries to working together to address health challenges and improve the well-being of the populations.
In anticipation of the meeting at the Minister of Health’s office, the Minister of International Development of Canada visited the Integrated Center for the care of victims of Gender-Based Violence (CIPEC-GBV) at CHUMEL to appreciate the achievements of the center, which provides holistic care to victims of gender-based violence. Indeed, by implementing a concrete multisectoral strategy, the government and its key partners aim to find a comprehensive and concerted solution to this modern-day challenge.
