Kizito Amukune Moi was allegedly killed by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale’s fighter bull, sparking fresh controversy over the cause of his death. The family had planned to bury Kizito on Thursday, but the burial has now been postponed as homicide detectives move in to carry out more investigations.

The family’s plans to collect the body of the late Kizito from the mortuary on Wednesday were halted, with police requesting more time to conclude their investigations. This followed complaints from some members of the public, although the identity of the complainants was not revealed, leaving the family disturbed.

While the family had accepted the initial autopsy report and had no issues regarding the cause of death, allegations of murder led to a decision to invite officers from the Homicide Department to conduct a second postmortem to clear any doubts.

The initial postmortem conducted by Western region pathologist Dickson Muchana revealed that Kizito had succumbed to injuries caused by the bull, suffering broken ribs, stab wounds from the horn of the animal, and excessive bleeding. The family and the entire Mungusi village had made burial arrangements, but the postponement disrupted many people’s plans.

Kizito, who was the caretaker of Dr. Khalwale’s fighter bulls, was reportedly gored to death by a bull he had cared for in the last four years. The postponement of the burial ceremony due to ongoing investigations has caused frustration and disappointment among the affected families and the community.

A video circulating on social media showed a prominent Kakamega businessman, Cleophas Shimanyula, claiming that Senator Khalwale had a hand in the herdsman’s death, adding fuel to the controversy surrounding the incident. The killer bull was slaughtered by irate villagers according to the Isukha tradition, and its meat was shared randomly, while Senator Khalwale purchased another bull to be slaughtered on the burial day of Mr. Amukune to honor his services.

Dr. Khalwale condemned the politicization of the death by certain politicians in Kakamega and expressed his commitment to cooperate with the police until they conclude their investigations. Despite the completion of the process to define the cause of death, politics has overshadowed the tragedy, with allegations and conspiracy theories circulating on social media.

The events surrounding Kizito’s death have led to a delay in his burial, causing frustration and disruptions in the community, as well as attracting unwarranted accusations and controversy. The family and the community await the conclusion of the investigative process so that Kizito can be laid to rest with dignity.
