ENI Congo has just produced its first shipment of liquefied natural gas. The official launch ceremony was presided over on Tuesday, February 27, in the economic capital of Congo, by the Head of State, Denis Sassou N’Guesso.
Valued at 5 billion dollars, Congo Liquefied Natural Gas is part of a project that is being implemented in several phases. The first phase began at the end of 2023, with the installation of the first floating natural gas liquefaction plant (Tango FLNG) with a capacity of 0.6 million tons per year (MTPA) of LNG. The plant exploits significant gas resources, meeting local energy needs while allowing exports to other countries, mainly to Europe, using its port as the main port of call, thus strengthening energy security.
The second phase, currently under construction and scheduled to start in 2025, will see the commissioning of a second FLNG plant, bringing the total liquefaction capacity to 3 MTPA.
Through this project, the Republic of Congo is positioning itself as a leading member of LNG exporting countries.
