The Minister of Health and Population, Gilbert Mokoki, launched the distribution of free cesarean section kits and other obstetrical interventions on Monday, February 26.

Two thousand and one (2001) cesarean section kits and other obstetrical interventions will be distributed in the various hospitals in the country. The Minister of Health and Population, Gilbert Mokoki, launched the distribution operation of these equipment in Brazzaville on Monday, February 26. These kits were acquired by the national program responsible for cesarean sections. The objective is to improve access to emergency cesarean sections and neonatal obstetric care.

“The package of care offered covers, among other things, urgent and scheduled cesarean sections, management of postpartum hemorrhage, resuscitation, laparotomy for ectopic pregnancy, laparotomy for uterine rupture,” explained Dr. Fabien Boungou, director of the national program responsible for cesarean sections.

The strategy of distributing cesarean section kits in health facilities responds to an urgent need, that of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates. This is at least what the Director of Health Care and Services, Prof. Germain Monabeka, mentioned.

The figures mentioned by the director of the national program responsible for cesarean sections indicate that in 2022 the maternal mortality ratio was estimated at 414 deaths per 100,000 live births, while that of newborns was 28.86 deaths per 100,000 live births.
