A dozen human rights NGOs launched an appeal this weekend to raise funds to finance a complaint against corruption.
The Citizen Coalition of Congo-Brazzaville against economic and financial crimes aims to shed light on an alleged embezzlement of a fund of 14,000 billion CFA francs. According to the complaint filed against X last July by these ten NGOs, this money was intended for “future generations.”
“Since 2015, after the constitutional referendum, we have noticed the disappearance of 14,000 billion CFA francs. The President of the Republic had promised that this money held in an account at the Central Bank should be audited every year, and then the accounts should be made public. But until today, the Congolese people no longer know where the 14,000 billion CFA francs went,” said Bertrand Menier, one of the signatories and coordinator of the citizen movement “Ras-le-bol.”
Two phone numbers have been provided to the public to receive money. This will be used to cover the legal assistance fees of the lawyers. The Coalition hopes to collect at least 20 million CFA francs.
