A fight sparked between inmates, mainly young men nicknamed “black babies”, is the cause of this tragedy.

At the Angola Libre police station in Brazzaville, five “black baby” prisoners lost their lives as a result of a brawl. Four inmates, identified as Ngolo, nicknamed Maréchal, Massamba, Sampayo, and Coulibaly, have been pointed out as the alleged perpetrators of this tragedy.

According to congomediatime.com, the tense atmosphere emerged following the refusal of new inmates, mostly “black babies”, to submit to the authority imposed by an informal hierarchy led by Ngolo.

“This Monday, March 11 at around 2 am, new prisoners, mainly ‘black babies’, refused to submit to the dictate of this hierarchy. The chief of discipline was ordered to send them to an adjacent cell to discipline them. As a form of harassment, they were reportedly subjected to various forms of violence, including sexual violence,” reports the colleague of Le Troubadour de Brazzaville.

An investigation is underway to determine the responsibilities and shed light on this tragedy, and security has been strengthened at the Angola Libre police station in Brazzaville.
