A room in the Benhanzin district (Airport) went up in flames on the morning of Monday, March 25, 2024.
It was a close call as the adjacent rooms were saved. According to neighbors, it all started from an electrical short circuit.
Honoré Pbogomou, one of the residents, noticed a power surge before the fire broke out: “Early in the morning, around 6 a.m., we noticed voltage fluctuations. I stayed in bed when suddenly the fan started oscillating rapidly. I jumped and unplugged it. I also heard a noise coming from my stabilizer, and before I could reach it, the stabilizer blew up. (…) At 8:30 a.m., I received a call from the school informing me that the building was on fire. So it was under these circumstances that the fire occurred. It was due to a short circuit caused by a power surge,” he recounted.
This version was supported by Mariame Bangoura, who was present when the fire started. “If people hadn’t come, all our houses would have burnt down because they are adjacent. We don’t know how the fire could have spread at Bountou’s,” she exclaimed.
