Collaboration between ICRC and Burkina: the regional director for Africa of the International Committee of the Red Cross expresses his satisfaction
Ouagadougou, March 15, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The regional director for Africa of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Patrick Youssef expressed his satisfaction and recognition to the Burkinabe authorities for the good collaboration he observed on the ground between the ICRC teams and state actors.
The Minister Delegate in charge of Regional Cooperation, Stella Kabré/Kaboré, received in audience on Thursday, March 14, the regional director for Africa of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Patrick Youssef, who conducted field visits in the Sahel and Center-North regions, said he came to express his satisfaction and recognition to the Burkinabe authorities through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the good collaboration he observed on the ground between the ICRC teams and state actors. He also reaffirmed ICRC’s commitment to continue the partnership with Burkina Faso in accordance with the sovereign choices of the authorities, particularly in the field of humanitarian assistance.
“We are not a political entity, but we will continue to advocate internationally for support for humanitarian efforts, and to attract actors and project holders for development, in order to further support those in need in Burkina Faso through a holistic approach,” said Mr. Patrick Youssef, who also acknowledged that in exceptional times, exceptional efforts are required. Minister Delegate Stella Kabré/Kaboré expressed the Burkinabe authorities’ appreciation to the ICRC for its interventions in Burkina Faso in favor of vulnerable people and expressed the wish that its interventions intensify given the context of the dual security and humanitarian crisis.
She welcomed the approach of the ICRC’s regional director for Africa, which involved going to the field to grasp the realities and get a true idea of the needs. According to Stella Kabré/Kaboré, this approach allows them to realize that what is reported, especially on social media, is not always reliable.
