China: Burkinabe journalists visit the 15th century wooden Temple of Heaven in Beijing
Beijing, April 12, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – Burkinabe journalists attending a training seminar in Beijing visited the Temple of Heaven in Beijing on Friday, April 12, 2024. The temple was built in wood in the 15th century.
Built in wood in the 15th century, the Temple of Heaven in China, located in the city of Beijing, remains one of the tourist sites that welcomes thousands of Chinese and foreign visitors every day.
According to the guide, Zuo Chao, the cultural site covers an area of 273 hectares with a height of 36 meters. It includes cultural objects, 28 golden pillars, 4 of which symbolize the country’s seasons – winter, summer, spring, and autumn – and a well-arranged space.
The temple has been burned down twice and rebuilt by the last Tong dynasty. It reflects the Chinese philosophy that “the sky is round and the earth is square, with the sky located in the north and the earth in the south.”
Zuo Chao stated that in Chinese tradition, the number 9 is reserved for the emperor, meaning that the king is at the top.
He explained that in feudal times, the emperor was the only person who could request good harvests from the sky for the Chinese, who were considered the sons of heaven under his rule at that time.
Today, “the Chinese come to this temple to seek blessings for ceremonies like weddings and others,” he added.
The guide pointed out that in ancient China, man depended on nature for agriculture, which is no longer the case today, especially with the advancement of science through new technologies.
Zuo Chao emphasized that the temple also remained a place of sacrifice for the emperor in the past.
A French tourist living in Thailand, named Jérémie, met at the site, said he came to visit the Temple of Heaven in China.
“I expected there to be so many people. The place is beautiful, great for photos,” he said, mentioning that he loves the Chinese Temple of Heaven.
The journalists then visited the Beijing Film Museum, founded in 2007, which is another attractive place for Chinese and foreigners. It is a huge modern building with three floors featuring traditional and modern decor.
The museum showcases films from 1905 to 2007, displaying the names of Chinese cinema producers, heroes, and actors, with movies for adults, children, and 3D films.
