In an interview with the Chinese state television channel CGTN, Mr. El Ansari highlighted the “important” economic relations between the two countries, emphasizing that Morocco is working to further strengthen favorable conditions for foreign investments, including those from China.

He also noted that Morocco provides access to a market of approximately 2.4 billion consumers through free trade agreements signed with several countries in different regions. The Kingdom therefore presents a significant commercial potential for Chinese companies, both within the country and with Morocco’s partners in Africa and North America, added the Moroccan diplomat.

Trade between Morocco and China increased by over 50% in 2022 to reach a total volume of 7.6 billion dollars, making the Asian giant the third largest trading partner of the Kingdom and its main partner in Asia. Chinese investments in Morocco reached over $56 million in 2022, mainly focused on industry, major projects, transportation, real estate, energy, and mining, with 52% going to the industry sector. The Moroccan ambassador emphasized that the volume of Chinese investments in Morocco remains below the potential of both countries, while expressing Morocco’s openness to welcoming more Chinese investments.
