A joint review of World Bank-funded projects for poverty reduction was held on Tuesday, March 12th at the Hotel de l’Amitié. Several ministers participated in these discussions.

The representative of the World Bank in Chad, Rasit Pertev, emphasized that this workshop is not only a moment to ensure that programs and projects are being implemented. “Today’s review is not only aimed at ensuring that projects and programs are being implemented to achieve the set targets, but it comes at a crucial moment when the World Bank’s portfolio has reached an unprecedented level. In fact, with 10 national projects and 11 regional projects currently being implemented, the bank’s commitments in Chad now total nearly $2 billion,” he said.

These projects are structuring projects which, according to Rasit Pertev, will certainly make a difference in terms of access to basic social services for the Chadian population. This workshop is therefore an opportunity for key stakeholders to deeply discuss the recommendations from the previous review and propose solutions to improve the projects.

To officially launch the workshop, the Minister of Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation, Mahamat Assouyouti Abakar, reviews the year 2023. “As you know, 2023 was a difficult year for our country in terms of macroeconomics, social, and humanitarian aspects,” the minister said.

The main objective of the joint World Bank review is to improve the performance of the portfolio of projects funded by the bank. To this end, it will assess the implementation status of recommendations, analyze the bottlenecks that hinder the efficient and effective implementation of the project program, and propose concrete solutions to the government and the World Bank for consideration,” specified Mahamat Assouyouti Abakar.
