The signatory trade unions of the triennial social pact held a general assembly on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the labor exchange, to report back to the base on their meeting with government members.
Many strikers from various union platforms attended the meeting at the labor exchange. The discussions focused on the issue of increasing fuel prices, public transportation, and access to water and electricity.
According to Barka Michel, spokesperson for the signatory trade unions of the triennial social pact, the government says it is willing to reconsider its position on the condition of suspending the strike.
“The government is asking us to suspend the strike and continue negotiations. Also, the government says it cannot solve this fuel problem because it is an imposition of the International Monetary Fund on all CEMAC member countries,” he said.
After the discussions, the base decides to continue with the indefinite general strike until total satisfaction is achieved.
“The base decides to continue the indefinite general strike and we can only abide by that since it is the assembly that decides,” Barka Michel concluded.
