Chad seeks Burkina’s support to take the lead at ASECNA

Ouagadougou, April 3, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – A delegation from the Chadian government, received in audience this Wednesday by the Transition President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, asked for Burkina Faso’s support to run for the position of Director General of the Agency for the Safety and Security of Navigation in Africa (ASECNA), as learned by Africa Links 24 from the presidency’s communication department.

The Chadian delegation, led by the Minister of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation, Mahamat Assouyouti Abakar, discussed with President Ibrahim Traoré the candidacy of their country for the General Directorate of the Agency for the Safety and Security of Navigation in Africa (ASECNA), requesting his support.

“It is above all a candidacy for the Sahel region. I would like to thank the President for his unequivocal support,” said the Chadian minister, as quoted by the presidency’s communication department.

The head of the Chadian delegation also conveyed to Captain Ibrahim Traoré the message of brotherhood and friendship from Chadian President, General Mahamat Idriss Déby.

“Chad has always stood by the Burkinabe people. In pursuit of this legitimate aspiration of the Burkinabe people for economic and social development, His Excellency the Head of State, General Mahamat Idriss Déby instructed us to convey his firm support to the Burkinabe Transition,” said the Chadian Minister of Economy, Mr. Abakar.

Mr. Abakar indicated that Chad had come to solicit Burkina’s support for their candidacy for the position of Director General of ASECNA. According to the Chadian Minister of Economy, “Chad’s candidacy at ASECNA” is essential.

Bilateral relations were also discussed during the exchanges between Captain Ibrahim Traoré and the Chadian delegation. Mahamat Assouyouti Abakar reassured that the relations between Burkina and Chad are longstanding and excellent.
