Official launch of the Humanitarian Needs Overview and Response Plan 2024 this Monday, March 11, 2024. The Minister of Social Action, Fatimé Boukar Kosseï, presided over the ceremony.

This humanitarian response plan aims to plan and coordinate humanitarian activities that fall within the framework of emergency response and align with development programs in Chad.

“Inter and intra-communal conflicts, insecurity in some neighboring countries, and the effects of climate change lead to forced population displacements, exacerbating food and nutrition insecurity, and causing health emergencies. The humanitarian response plan aims to reduce mortality and morbidity, improve access to basic social services, and strengthen prevention capacity in emergency areas,” said Violette Kakyomya, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations system in Chad.

For Fatimé Boukar Kosseï, the government’s responsibility in humanitarian assistance remains one of the fundamental principles of humanitarian action and international humanitarian law.

“As we have seen in recent years, Chad has become a haven for thousands of people fleeing their countries in search of peace among us. This puts a lot of pressure on the basic service system, already overwhelmed by a population vulnerable to climate shocks and other humanitarian crises. I call on everyone to support advocacy efforts to strengthen emergency development and peacebuilding actions,” she said.

It should be noted that Chad continues to face a multidimensional and deepening humanitarian crisis, with 6 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.
