The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Kanabé Passalet Marcelin, is on a working visit to Mayo-Kebbi Ouest.
Welcomed at the entrance of the city of Pala by the governor of Mayo-Kebbi Ouest province, Sougour Mahamat Galma, the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Kanabé Passalet Marcelin, is in Mayo-Kebbi Ouest to see firsthand the difficulties faced by the population of this province in accessing clean water.
After exchanging greetings, the Minister’s convoy headed to the residence of the governor of Mayo-Kebbi Ouest province. Governor Sougour Mahamat Galma highlighted that the population of Mayo-Kebbi Ouest is suffering from a lack of clean water, leading to various waterborne diseases.
In his speech, the Minister of Water and Sanitation acknowledged that currently, less than a third of the population is served by the installations of the Chadian Water Company, which operate alternately with 4 boreholes located on the same aquifer. Kanabé Passalet Marcelin noted that the city of Pala is built on a rocky foundation, making it difficult to drill for water.
“To address this issue, a geophysical study has recently been conducted, identifying potential and favorable locations for the installation of new boreholes, which will be operational by 2024. I assure you that we are making the success of these projects our top priority so that the trust placed in us by our people is not disappointed,” assures the Minister in charge of water, who is originally from this province.
To achieve this, it is noted that part of the investment is already secured through a 22 billion CFA franc agreement signed between the Chadian government and the African Development Bank last February for the benefit of his department, including the second phase of the PAEPA-SUMR project which includes Mayo-Kebbi Ouest in terms of water supply and sanitation. “In addition, we are working on the PIDACC – Niger Basin project since taking office to make its activities visible on the ground and beneficial to the population of Mayo-Kebbi Ouest,” promises Kanabé Passalet Marcelin.
