The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Dr. Tom Erdimi, chaired the opening ceremony of the open days of the Chadian Institute of Agronomic Research for Development (Itrad) on March 6, 2024, at the headquarters of the Institute.

Under the theme “Technology and Innovation for Resilient Agricultural Production in the Face of Climate Change,” these 3 days of open days are launched. For the Director General of the Chadian Institute of Agronomic Research for Development (Itrad), Yassine Doudoua, this 3rd edition of the open days organized by Itrad, following last year’s event on the park of technologies and innovations, is part of the activities of the program for scaling up agricultural technologies and innovations to increase the resilience of production systems and family farms in West and Central Africa (Tarspro).

“This 3rd edition of the open days offers the opportunity to once again exchange with users of agronomic research technologies and innovations, but it calls on rural world actors to reflect on increasing agricultural productivity,” emphasized the Minister of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Mahamat Anno.

For the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Dr. Tom Erdimi, the future of Chadian agriculture lies in agronomic research, innovation, and capacity building of rural actors. “This is why, for a good synergy of action of partner interventions, this 3rd edition of the open days of the Chadian Institute of Agronomic Research for Development (Itrad) benefited from the support of the Tarspro program funded by the Swiss cooperation and coordinated by the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (Coraf),” indicated Tom Erdimi. He added that the aim of this support is to ensure food security, nutrition, and economic security to the population through the widespread dissemination of technologies and innovations generated by agronomic research.

According to him, these open days placed under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Head of the Transitional Government, clearly demonstrate the importance that the transitional government places on rural development. “Because it is the only way to combat food and nutritional insecurity and will also help to combat the poverty of populations whether rural or urban,” specified Tom Erdimi.
